Directory of Early Photographers in Norfolk, Studio Notes - Recent Findings

Thomas COE. Diss Norfolk 1860

Thomas Coe can be identified as a photographer through the following notice concerning his insolvency. Suffolk Chronicle, Saturday 24 March 1860 p2:
"WHEREAS a Petition of Thomas Coe, formerly of Diss, in the County of Norfolk, journeyman Painter; then of Stowmarket, in the County of Suffolk, Painter; and now of Diss aforesaid, journeyman Painter and Photographic Artist, and Dealer in Frames for Photographic Portraits; an Insolvent Debtor, having been filed in the County Court of Suffolk and Norfolk, holden at Eye and Diss, and an Interim Order for Protection from Process having been given to the said Thomas Coe under the provisions of the Statutes in that case made and provided, the said Thomas Coe is hereby required to appear in the said Court to be holden at the Corn Hall, Diss, before the Judge of the said Court, on the Twenty Third day of April next, at One o’clock in the afternoon precisely, for his First Examination touching his debts, estate, and effects, and to be further dealt with according to the provisions of the said Statutes. And Notice is hereby given that the choice of Assignees is to take place at tbe time so appointed. All persons indebted to the said Thomas Coe or who have any of his effects, are not to pay or deliver the same but to Mr. Edgar Chenery, the Registrar of the said Court, at his Office, Eye, in the said County of Suffolk."
