COPE, Henry C Cope has been identified by Bob Hakewill as assistant to Alexander Smith (q.v.) in his Northampton Road studio in Market Harborough in 1891. The census shows him as aged 17, single and born in Barnsley, Yorkshire. He probably later had his own studio in Pontypridd, where Mari Alderman's online directory of Welsh professional photographers shows a Henry Cope in 1923 and 1926. According to Aucott, William Cort was a boot and shoe maker, who branched out into photography. His photographs of the town's new cattle market were published by the 'Market Harborough Advertiser' in 1903, and around 1905 he was running a camera-hire service. COWPERTHWAIT, William
